[ he messages a day or so after the incident with the ferry, when he's had time to feel a little less wound up about it all. ]

So, I think you've earned the right to say 'I told you so'...

Boy, if only my mood was boosted every time someone felt a tinge of regret.

That's not really why I messaged you though.

I'm willing to admit that I don't really have much experience as far as 'finding myself trapped with a small group of individuals on a planet somewhere in the multiverse, possibly not quite in the realm of the living, waiting to be devoured by world eating alien creatures while ALSO doing a enactment of the Blair Witch Project mixed with Robinson Crusoe.'

Which is... my way of asking: what do we do next? I know, I know, not everyone's going to want to work together, as much as I'm pretty sure that'd make this easier, but... What worked for you?

[ OH JEEZ. that's not

where he wanted this conversation to go right off the bat. ]

I'm sorry.

[ is the first message, sent after a slight delay. it's followed by another delay because for as much as they're apparently all dead, it's still not something he's entirely comfortable with talking about quite so cavalierly when it's literally anyone that isn't himself, when it's not simply an abstract 'oh and supposedly, we died.' ]

I know I might sound pretty ...optimistically naïve at times, but I promise you, I know how bad it can get. I know what happens when people disagree, even about stupid, ridiculous things. What happens when they disagree when they're stressed and they're tired, and it's about something they feel deeply about.

I don't know that we'll be able to help everyone, but ... it's worth a shot, right? The alternative is something I really don't want to consider.

You mean, like sinking a ferry?

The thing with a group like -- The Guard is that it creates a power imbalance, and I don't know how well that'd sit here. Outside of weapons, we've got people with powers and abilities that ordinary humans don't have a shot against. Runs the risk of breeding resentment, I guess. You saw how Quentin's request for a list or register of superpowered individuals went, right?

Speaking of things changing really fast... You know what happened with the lighthouse and the party, right? With the spirits.

That's always the risk. Isn't there a saying about that?

Uh... Right. That's the short story. The slightly less abridged version is that we needed to get Robin connected back up to the network. Apparently it always carries its risks and dangers. The guys that didn't head out to the lighthouse stayed back in town and had a party with the forest spirits. Something something they were beginning to trust us etc. Something else about how they protect the lighthouse and react ... badly when there's a perceived threat to either it or the Keeper.

Anyway, perceived threat included the team heading out to the lighthouse. I wasn't here in town when things switched, but if things do? It's not going to end well for us. We lost a lot of people. Not all of the spirits attacked, but there's more of them, more than the ones we see regularly. I'm guessing they generally live deeper in the forest, but they're stronger and more violent.

Robin's shared some details with me about how the resets work. Basically it's kind of like that what happened with the party: the forest spirits are told to raze the town.

That's the question.

Robin said something about not being able to stop them, but implied that she normally has influence over them.

Which means they've got a degree of independence - they've got their own language, they have their own likes and dislikes but they're not completely autonomous.
